Do I need a Doula if I have a Midwife?
A Doula and a Midwife provide different support to you and your baby. A Midwife is a medical professional who provides support through testing (should you choose to undergo each procedure provided), prenatal appointments throughout your pregnancy, and a presence during your birth. A Midwife offers support to Mama from the waist down. A Doula fills in the blanks between appointments. A Doula offers informational support on a variety of topics, educational support by way of prenatals where in depth discussions take place about your birth desires and preparation, physical support during labor, emotional support throughout the journey together. A Doula offers assistance from the waist up.
Are your services covered by OHIP?
At this time, Doula services are not covered by OHIP.
When is the best time to hire a Doula?
The best time to hire a Doula is your decision. Some women prefer to have their Doula present from the beginning to build that relationship. Some will wait until the third trimester. It is entirely your choice. Keeping in mind that many Doula offer other additional services with their package to ensure you have time to prepare accordingly.

I'm worried my partner might feel left out. How does a Doula work with my partner?
During one of the prenatals, a Doula works with you and your partner by showing various positions and ways that your partner supports you during labor. A Doula will work alongside your partner and provide different ways that they provide support. A Doula does not replace your partner. There are many ways in which your partner and your Doula can simultaneously provide support.
